Volleyball Recap: Calvary Christian Academy Falls Short of Pine Crest in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Calvary Christian Academy can now relate to. They came up short against the Pine Crest Panthers on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Julie Mardenli paced Calvary Christian Academy's offense, picking up five kills. Mardenli were helped by Sophia Azevedo and Kaia Mittauer, who contributed five assists each. Mittauer was also a major player on defense: she and Camryn Kanell shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with three each.

Leading Pine Crest to victory were Kaylee Foreman and Jasmine Florian. Foreman had 13 digs and four assists, while Florian had 12 digs. Those 12 digs gave Florian a new career-high.

Calvary Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Pine Crest, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season.

Pine Crest didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Saint Andrew's on the 16th. Hopefully Calvary Christian Academy paid attention to the Panthers' matchup: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
