Basketball Recap: Pikes Peak Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Megan Ferguson and Bella Fletcher

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Tuesday. Pikes Peak Christian fell 39-31 to Deer Trail. Pikes Peak Christian has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Pikes Peak Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Bella Fletcher and Megan Ferguson. Fletcher shot 45% from the field on her way to 13 points and three blocks, while Ferguson posted two points and six rebounds. Ferguson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games she's played.

Deer Trail's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Allena Sanchez-Neal, who earned 20 points in addition to eight boards and seven steals. Sanchez-Neal is becoming a predictor of Deer Trail's success: when she posts at least 20 points the team is undefeated (and 3-13 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Megan Donovan, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Pikes Peak Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Deer Trail, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-13 record.

Pikes Peak Christian has already played their next matchup, a 44-27 loss against South Park on the 20th. As for Deer Trail, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-21 defeat against Burlington on the 20th.
