Baseball Recap: Cheverus Comes Up Short

Cheverus lost to South Portland back in May of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Stags fell just short of the Red Riots by a score of 2-1. The Stags have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ben Dumais was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April.

At the plate, Cheverus saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Daigle, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Cheverus' loss dropped their record down to 12-3. As for South Portland, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3-1.

Coming up, Cheverus will face off against Bonny Eagle at 4:30 p.m. on June 4. As for South Portland, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-3 win against Thornton Academy on the 29th.
