Preview: Douglas Tigers vs. Berkeley Yellowjackets
The Douglas Tigers and the Berkeley Yellowjackets will face off at 12:40 p.m. on December 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Douglas didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Bellarmine Prep, but they still walked away with a 52-47 win. The win was just what Douglas needed coming off of a 90-52 loss in their prior contest.
Among those leading the charge was Jeremiah Pitts, who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 0 assists. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Kyle Koontz, who scored 12 points.
Berkeley has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 25 points or more this season. They breezed by Saint Francis on the road to the tune of 62-35. Given Berkeley's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Saint Francis is ranked 458th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Douglas' win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Berkeley, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
