Softball Recap: West Springfield Takes a Loss

West Springfield dropped their record down to 14-4 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 8-2 to the South County Stallions. The match marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

West Springfield saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Clara Sutton, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for South County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

On South County's side, Maddie Grice spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. Grice has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ava Abromavage was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. Lauren Mrowka was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. West Springfield will square off against rival Woodson at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, South County is set to take on their familiar foe Robinson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
