Basketball Recap: Nitro Falls Short Against Ranked Chapmanville Regional

On Friday, Nitro faced Chapmanville Regional in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Nitro Wildcats received a blow as they fell 70-54 to the Chapmanville Regional Tigers. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Nitro still got an impressive performance from Ashton Crouch, who went 6 of 9 to rack up 16 points. Crouch's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Collin Crouch, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Nitro's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 10-4. As for Chapmanville Regional, their victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-5.

Coming up, Nitro won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lincoln County at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Nitro is facing Lincoln County at the right time seeing as Lincoln County is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Chapmanville Regional, they will face off against Bluefield at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
