Baseball Recap: Evansville Harrison Victorious

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Evansville Harrison walked away with it. They came out on top against the Evansville Reitz Panthers by a score of 5-1 on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Warriors: when they faced off against the Panthers on May 15th, they had to take a 4-3 defeat.

Tyler Singleton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up eight Ks. Evansville Harrison is 2-1 when Singleton allows three or fewer hits, but 7-17 otherwise.

At the plate, Brooks Thomas was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Jay Sutton was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Evansville Harrison and bumps their season record up to 9-18. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Evansville Reitz, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-18 record this season.

Evansville Harrison will take on Evansville North at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Huskies will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. Evansville Reitz does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
