Baseball Recap: Paul Laurence Dunbar Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Paul Laurence Dunbar had lost 13 games straight , but after bumping their record up to 10-25 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They never let the Anderson County Bearcats get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Bulldogs' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Case Williams tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Paul Laurence Dunbar got a big performance out of Nate Goodpaster, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Goodpaster a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Steven Estepp, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Paul Laurence Dunbar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

As for Anderson County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 16 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-17 record this season. Their defeat continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

On Anderson County's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Cole, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Paul Laurence Dunbar and Anderson County could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings. The Bulldogs (ranked 115th) will meet Woodford County (ranked 28th) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Anderson County will face off against Lafayette at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (111 vs. 31).
