Volleyball Game Preview: St. Andrew's Episcopal Saints vs. Newton County Cougars + How To Watch

The St. Andrew's Episcopal Saints will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against the Newton County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Saints fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Tuesday's season opener. They put the hurt on Pearl with a sharp 3-0 victory on August 12th. The Saints haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

St. Andrew's Episcopal walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the first set). The match finished with set scores of 25-9, 25-17, 25-16.

Meanwhile, Newton County faced Union in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Cougars came out on top against the Yellowjackets by a score of 3-1.

Newton County had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-20.

Newton County found their leader in freshman Emma Alford, who had 14 digs and six assists.

Newton County was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in seven consecutive contests.

St. Andrew's Episcopal came up short against Newton County when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 2-0. Can the Saints avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
