Preview: Ledford Panthers vs. Wheatmore Warriors
The Ledford Panthers will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Wheatmore Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Ledford's 20-6 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They had to suffer through a rough 72-18 loss at the hands of Forbush. While losing is never fun, Ledford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 395th, while Forbush is ranked 90th).
Despite the defeat, Ledford saw an underclassman step up: Izzy Smith scored ten points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Wheatmore got the win against Trinity on Tuesday by a conclusive 47-24. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Wheatmore has managed all season.
Ledford bumped their record down to 3-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.0 points per game. As for Wheatmore, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Ledford came up short against Wheatmore in their previous matchup on December 4th, falling 42-29. Can Ledford avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
