Basketball Recap: Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri came tearing into Tuesday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Guadalupe Centers Aztecs, posting an 80-51 win. The Crusaders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 23 points or more this season.

Leading Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri to victory were Joachim Burton and Phil Basola. Burton posted 27 points and eight boards, while Basola earned 19 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Basola is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games he's played. Isaac Burton was another key player, putting up 12 points and three blocks.

Guadalupe Centers' loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Gonzalez, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 18 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Recalde, who scored nine points in addition to five assists and five rebounds.

Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. As for Guadalupe Centers, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against St. Joseph D at 8:00 p.m. on February 28th. As for Guadalupe Centers, they will head out to face off against Frontier School of Excellence at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Frontier School of Excellence will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Guadalupe Centers surely won't give up without a fight.
