Soccer Game Preview: Varina vs. Highland Springs

The Varina Blue Devils will take on the Highland Springs Springers at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Varina's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Varina's offense. They came up short against Mechanicsville on Tuesday, falling 8-0. While losing is never fun, Varina can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while Mechanicsville are ranked 71st).

Meanwhile, Highland Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They lost 10-0 to Manchester.

Highland Springs' loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Varina, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5-1.

Varina couldn't quite get it done against Highland Springs in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
