6A Region 3 recap September 10, 2013

Jim Hill lost to Murrah 53-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Forest Hill and Wingfield played the closest game in 6A Region 3 this week, with Forest Hill eventually emerging with a 13-10 victory.

Robert Johnson was a beast in the backfield as Terry fell to Ridgeland.

Cris Ward was the best receiver in the league this week as Brandon topped Clinton. Ward racked up 7 receptions for 145 yards. Arthur Turner helped Brandon's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 62 yards.

Kirk McCarty put up the best numbers in passing as Oak Grove topped Pearl River Central. He finished with a total of 26 completions for 467 yards and 4 touchdowns. McCarty's favorite target this week was Jordan Duncan, who caught 3 passes for 115 yards.

He was 26-34 with 0 interceptions.

Johnson was the best running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 218 yards as the Bulldogs defeated the Arrows. Donovan Lewis also contributed to the rushing game with 114 yards on the ground.

Brandon's Gardner Minshew and Ward have formed a dream team this season, leading 6A Region 3 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Minshew has thrown for 706 yards this season, while Ward has 12 catches for 227 yards. Petal's Tyus Raine leads the league in rushing yards with 394.

Terry made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,856 from 6,315. The advance stemmed from a 41-33 victory over Todd McDaniel's team last week.
