Soccer Game Preview: Jefferson County vs. Dobyns-Bennett

The Jefferson County Patriots will head out to face off against the Dobyns-Bennett Indians at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Jefferson County's tournament run continued when they took on Sevier County on Thursday. The Patriots came up short against the Smoky Bears, falling 4-1. While losing is never fun, Jefferson County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee soccer rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Sevier County are ranked 26th).

Meanwhile, Dobyns-Bennett came tearing into Thursday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 goals), and they left with even more momentum. While the 0-0 score might suggest a draw, it was the Indians who were credited with the win. Dobyns-Bennett got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to Science Hill's three. Surprisingly, this marked Dobyns-Bennett's third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Dobyns-Bennett pushed their record up to 15-2-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Jefferson County, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8-2.

Jefferson County suffered a grim 5-2 defeat to Dobyns-Bennett in their previous matchup back in March. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Patriots were down 3-0.
