Recap: Venture Academy Mustangs vs. Sheldon Huskies

After a string of eight wins, the Venture Academy Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They received a tough blow as they fell 72-58 to Sheldon. While losing is never fun, Venture Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Sheldon is ranked 62nd).

Despite the loss, Venture Academy still got an impressive performance from Mario Williams, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cameron Lowe, who scored nine points.

Sheldon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaden Spears out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Spears has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Muhammad Singleton, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Venture Academy's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-3. As for Sheldon, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Venture Academy will head out on the road to take on Millennium at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Venture Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Sheldon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Davis Sr. at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sheldon is coming into the matchup with five straight wins at home, so Davis Sr. is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
