Recap: Riverdale Warriors vs. Oakland Patriots
On Friday, The Riverdale Warriors faced the Oakland Patriots in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Riverdale slipped by Oakland 25-24. The win was nothing new for Riverdale as they're now sitting on six straight.
Riverdale's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Braden Graham, who threw for 313 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Keshawn Williams also helped out with an impressive 98 receiving yards.
Despite the loss, Oakland still got an impressive performance from Daune Morris, who rushed for 249 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. Morris' longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.
Even if they lost, Oakland's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Leading the way was Dre Oldham and his two sacks.
Riverdale's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.0 points per game. As for Oakland, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverdale will take on Green Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Green Hill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 76th, while Riverdale is ranked 12th). As for Oakland, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Gallatin at 7:00 p.m. Gallatin will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
