Basketball Recap: Sofia Hamilton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Holy Cross over Monsignor Scanlan

Holy Cross was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Monsignor Scanlan Crusaders, falling 68-43. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 257th, while the Crusaders are ranked 12th).

Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sofia Hamilton, who posted 15 points and three steals. Those 15 points gave Hamilton a new career-high. Jeeanna Pierantoni was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Even though they lost, Holy Cross smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. This was only their 13th loss (out of 18 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Holy Cross' loss dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Monsignor Scanlan, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-6.

Looking ahead, Holy Cross will head out on the road to square off against St. Francis Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Monsignor Scanlan, they will venture away from home to face off against Xaverian at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
