Baseball Preview: Roy Royals vs. Bonneville Lakers
Roy is 3-0 against Bonneville since April of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Roy Royals will head out on the road to square off against the Bonneville Lakers at 3:30 p.m.
Last Monday, it was a hard-fought game, but Roy had to settle for a 5-4 loss against Clearfield. Roy has struggled against Clearfield recently, as their contest on Monday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Parker Skidmore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances.
On the hitting side, Roy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samuel Smith, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Robinson, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Bonneville had to endure a nine-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Bountiful by a score of 7-4 on Tuesday.
Jet Hirschi was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jaygen Noble, who went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two RBI.
Roy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Bonneville, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-12.
