Softball Recap: Castle Has No Trouble Against Evansville Mater Dei

Castle won the last time they faced Evansville Mater Dei and things went their way on Thursday too. The Knights were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Wildcats. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.

Bailey Gravens looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Castle let Mati Hughes and Emma Bruggenschmidt run wild. Hughes went 4-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Bruggenschmidt went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Bruggenschmidt has posted since back in March. Maddie Rose was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Castle lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are 2-1 when they post two or more home runs.

Castle's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-8. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Evansville Mater Dei, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Castle will challenge Brownsburg at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Knights are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Evansville Mater Dei, they will face off against Evansville Harrison at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.5 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
