Softball Game Preview: Fountain Central Mustangs vs. North Vermillion Falcons

Fountain Central and North Vermillion are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Falcons at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Fountain Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

Fountain Central lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Faith Christian, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 12-1 win on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Patience Bixler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacquelynn Weber, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Savanna Richardson also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, North Vermillion might've scored the first runs on Thursday, but it was West Vigo who claimed the real prize. The Falcons lost 16-6 to the Vikings. The loss continues a trend for the Falcons in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost four in a row.

Ava Jumps made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. Olivia Baker was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

North Vermillion's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Fountain Central, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-6.

Fountain Central took their win against North Vermillion in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 20-4 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
