Softball Game Preview: West Jessamine Colts vs. Taylor County Cardinals

The West Jessamine Colts will challenge the Taylor County Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

West Jessamine barely beat Garrard County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Colts never let the Golden Lions get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory on Tuesday. The win was nothing new for the Colts as they're now sitting on three straight.

The result came thanks to Michaela Tate's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addi Vahle, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Emerson Collins, who went 3-for-4 with one triple and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West Jessamine kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Taylor County made sure to put some runs up on the board against Adair County on Tuesday. The Cardinals blew past the Indians 10-0. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Taylor County's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for West Jessamine, their win bumped their record up to 11-8.

West Jessamine beat Taylor County 11-7 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Colts have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
