Football Recap: Germantown Piles Up the Points Against Desoto Central

With a playoff win on the line, Germantown rose to the challenge on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the DeSoto Central Jaguars 70-42. The Mavericks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by 21 points or more this season.

Germantown's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nyrikius Johnson, who rushed for 232 yards and five TDs while picking up 11.0 yards per carry. Those 232 rushing yards gave Johnson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of King White, who rushed for 96 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Germantown was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 478 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 166 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups.

Eric Perry and Cade Rodgers certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Perry rushed for 163 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, while Rodgers gained 253 total yards and two touchdowns. Rodgers' longest reception was for an impressive 65 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total.

Germantown's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.3 points over those games. As for DeSoto Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.

Germantown has already played their next game, a 35-28 defeat against Tupelo on the 21st. DeSoto Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
