Softball Game Preview: St. Joseph Spartans vs. Serra Catholic Eagles

The St. Joseph Spartans will challenge the Serra Catholic Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

St. Joseph is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game dating back to last season last Wednesday. They came up short against Ellis, falling 18-1.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four contests, Serra Catholic brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. Everything went their way against Leechburg on Wednesday as they made off with a 15-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won three in a row.

Kelly Morrissey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Keyara Watkins was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Bianca Gajdos was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Serra Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Serra Catholic's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for St. Joseph, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
