Volleyball Recap: Pickens County Tornadoes vs. Pickens Academy Pirates
After flying high against Central on Wednesday, Pickens County came back down to earth. The Tornadoes fell just short of the Pickens Academy Pirates by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Tornadoes were not able to make up for their loss to the Pirates from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.
Pickens County wouldn't go down easily and took Pickens Academy into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking three-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 25-6, 21-25, 25-17, 15-12.
Pickens Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alanna Findley, who had 14 aces. Another player making a difference was Emory Craker, who had seven aces and five blocks.
Pickens County now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Pickens Academy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Looking ahead, Pickens County will host Gordo at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tornadoes are facing the Green Wave at the right time seeing as the Green Wave are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Pickens Academy, they will venture away from home to challenge South Lamar at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Stallions will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight.
