Baseball Game Preview: Litchfield Purple Panthers vs. Jersey Panthers

Litchfield is 0-4 against Jersey since April of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Purple Panthers will be playing at home against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Litchfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Litchfield's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Gillespie hitters got past them. The Purple Panthers lost 10-2 to the Miners on Tuesday.

Max Leitschuh put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Leitschuh wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mathew Bywater, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Bywater has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Meanwhile, Jersey had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Hiltoppers with a sharp 12-1 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.

Jersey's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Litchfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.
