Basketball Recap: Esparto Comes Up Short

Esparto was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 55-30 to the Leroy Greene Academy Lions. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-8.

Despite the defeat, Esparto saw an underclassman step up: freshman Landon Yanez posted 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for Yanez. The team also got some help courtesy of Rocky Boyd, who earned four points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Esparto smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Esparto's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Leroy Greene Academy, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-9.

Esparto wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 95-18 defeat against Fortune Early College on the 14th. Leroy Greene Academy has also already played their next matchup, a 63-32 loss against Westlake Charter on the 14th.
