Basketball Recap: Modesto Takes a Loss

Modesto was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 21st straight loss. They came up short against the Gregori Jaguars, falling 72-51. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1052nd, while the Jaguars are ranked 151st).

Gregori's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rajan Sandhu led the charge by going 5 for 7 on his way to 12 points. Sandhu is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last four games he's played. Kaleb Smith was another key player, putting up nine points and six boards.

Modesto's defeat dropped their record down to 2-22. As for Gregori, they are on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 19 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Modesto will head out to challenge Downey at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Modesto is facing Downey at the right time seeing as Downey is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Gregori, they will challenge Enochs at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Enochs sitting on four straight wins and Gregori on three.
