Soccer Game Preview: Newport vs. Stayton

The Newport Cubs will face off against the Stayton Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Newport had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the three-goal drubbing they dealt Sweet Home on Thursday. The Cubs blew past the Huskies 4-1. Newport might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by three goals or more this season.

Meanwhile, Stayton strolled into their game on Thursday with an undefeated record and they left with the same. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against Philomath. Given Stayton's advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon soccer rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Philomath are ranked 35th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Newport's victory bumped their record up to 7-3-1. As for Stayton, their win bumped their record up to 10-0-1.
