Football Recap: Fairmont Prep Falls to Costa Mesa in First Game of Season

Fairmont Prep had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a 25-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Costa Mesa Mustangs on Tuesday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Costa Mesa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emma Freeland, who threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.2 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 65 yards and one TD on only seven carries. Freeland has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times she's played. Costa Mesa's leading receiver Kassandra Ramirez was Freeland's top target yet again, picking up 170 receiving yards and one score.

Costa Mesa's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1.

Looking ahead, Fairmont Prep will take on Tesoro in a tournament on Saturday. As for Costa Mesa, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 37-0 victory against Los Amigos on the 3rd.
