After a string of three wins, the Marquette Catholic Blazers's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. The match between Marquette Catholic and Gary West Side wasn't particularly close, with Marquette Catholic falling 64-47. While losing is never fun, Marquette Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 184th, while Gary West Side is ranked 21st).
Marquette Catholic lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Colson Dobre, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Dobre scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of JJ Welch, who scored 15 points.
Marquette Catholic struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Marquette Catholic's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-1. As for Gary West Side, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Marquette Catholic will head out on the road to face off against Oregon-Davis at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Oregon-Davis has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Gary West Side will be home for the holidays to greet Mishawaka Marian at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
