Basketball Game Preview: Knappa Loggers vs. Vernonia/Jewell

The Knappa Loggers will head out to face off against Vernonia/Jewell at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Knappa will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

If Knappa beats Vernonia/Jewell with 79 points on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Knappa took down Faith Bible Christian/Life Christian 79-65 on Friday. Given the Loggers' advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Faith Bible Christian/Life Christian are ranked 182nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Vernonia/Jewell had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They slipped by Clatskanie 30-29 on Friday.

Knappa's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for Vernonia/Jewell, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-10.

Knappa came up short against Vernonia/Jewell in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 58-51. Can Knappa avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
