Basketball Recap: Maple Heights Takes a Loss

After flying high against Bard Early College last Thursday, Maple Heights came back down to earth. The Maple Heights Mustangs were beaten by the Lorain Titans 57-17 on Monday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 56-36 back in December of 2024.

Leading Lorain to victory were Aminah Mustafa and Samone Whitt. Mustafa went 7 for 13 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and six assists, while Whitt dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Mustafa a new career-high in points. Jaila Kirksey was another key player, putting up five points.

Maple Heights' defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-9. As for Lorain, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Bedford the next time they take the court. Lorain will head out to face Bedford at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Maple Heights will host them at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
