Softball Game Preview: Roncalli Jets vs. Reedsville Panthers

The Roncalli Jets will take on the Reedsville Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Roncalli has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Roncalli came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Kiel, falling 11-1. The loss continues a trend for the Jets in their meetings with the Raiders: they've now lost six in a row.

Roncalli saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emerson Noel, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Reedsville hadn't done well against St. Mary Catholic recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Zephyrs 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Zephyrs: they've now won three in a row.

Kayla Bubolz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mercedes Grimm, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Brooklin Taddy was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Roncalli's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Reedsville, the victory also got them back to even at 4-4.

Roncalli couldn't quite finish off Reedsville when the teams last played back in May of 2023 and fell 6-4. Can the Jets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
