Marion County had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Brainerd Panthers, posting a 33-3 victory. The win was nothing new for the Warriors as they're now sitting on nine straight dating back to last season.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Mason Mays and Ashton Richards. Mays rushed for 45 yards and a pair of TDs while Richards rushed for 42 yards and one score. That's the most rushing yards Richards has posted since back in September of 2024.
Marion County's run defense was locked in: Brainerd could only muster 2.8 yards per carry. The Warriors didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marion County will challenge Polk County at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Brainerd, they will face off against Howard Tech at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
