Baseball Recap: Eastern Comes Up Short

Eastern dropped down to 15-7 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 11-4 to the Northwestern Tigers. The Comets were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

Eastern saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trey Beachy, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

As for Northwestern, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

On Northwestern's side, Jaxson Trueblood was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Trueblood has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ajax Garcia, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Landen Begley, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Eastern didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-6 loss against Clinton Prairie on the 12th. As for Northwestern, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 10-1 victory against Wabash on the 11th.
