Soccer Game Preview: Delmar vs. Smyrna

The Delmar Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Smyrna Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Delmar's defense has only allowed 0.4 goals per game this season, so Smyrna's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Delmar is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Sussex Academy, who was ranked fourth at the time (Delmar was ranked 11th). The Wildcats fell just short of the Seahawks by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty ten goals in the game before, Delmar's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Smyrna fell victim to Caesar Rodney and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Riders.

Smyrna's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Delmar, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 10-2-1.

Delmar couldn't quite get it done against Smyrna in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-3. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
