Basketball Recap: Jordan Hume and Jesus Cruz Secure Win for Miami-Yoder

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pikes Peak Christian, Miami-Yoder was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 57-37 margin over the Deer Trail Eagles. The Buffaloes pushed the score to 44-18 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.

Miami-Yoder was led to victory by Jesus Cruz and Jordan Hume. Cruz posted 19 points along with seven steals and five rebounds, while Hume dropped a double-double with 19 points and 12 boards. Those seven steals gave Cruz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Beltran, who had six points and three steals.

Miami-Yoder smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 29 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deer Trail only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Deer Trail lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tyson Haight, who shot 42% from the field en route to 14 points. Sebastian Anguiano was another key player, putting up eight points and 11 rebounds.

The victory got Miami-Yoder back to even at 1-1. As for Deer Trail, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Miami-Yoder has already played their next game, a 41-32 win against Monument Academy on the 10th. As for Deer Trail, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on Liberty Tree Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
