Baseball Game Preview: West Lafayette Red Devils vs. Twin Lakes Indians

West Lafayette is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Monday. They will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Twin Lakes Indians at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

West Lafayette barely beat Delphi Community the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Red Devils blew past the Oracles 10-3 on Friday.

Korbyn Keen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Keen was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on LJ Whitford, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Colin Kastens was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Twin Lakes). They came out on top in a nail-biter against Clinton Central on Saturday, sneaking past 7-5. That's two games straight that the Indians have won by exactly two runs.

Twin Lakes saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Wagner, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Cooper Dold also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Twin Lakes and bumps their season record up to 2-4. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for West Lafayette, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
