James Blackmon Jr. sidelined with torn ACL

James Blackmon Jr., one of the nation's premier sophomores and an Indiana University basketball recruit, will miss the next three or four months while recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, it was announced today.

The standout guard from Bishop Luers (Fort Wayne, Ind.) was injured on Saturday during a 73-51 loss to Tech (Indianapolis) and will have surgery on his left leg next week. He was averaging 25.1 points.

* Girls basketball coach Jesse Nelson set a Kansas state record with his 732nd career victory on Monday as Olpe (Kan.) defeated St. James Academy (Lenexa, Kan.) 68-38. It also was his team's 67th-straight victory overall and 100th in a row at home.

* Billy Hicks of Scott County (Georgetown, Ky.) is only the second Kentucky coach to notch 800 basketball victories. He now has 803 wins and is chasing the record of 856 held by William Kean.
