Basketball Recap: Wheeler County Takes a Loss

Wheeler County suffered their closest loss since November 23, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Dublin Fighting Irish by a score of 51-48. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 60-58 back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Wheeler County still got an impressive performance from Nikita James, who almost dropped a triple-double on 33 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals. That was a full 68.8% of Wheeler County's points, marking the 13th time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Maryee Grace Selph, who scored four points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Wheeler County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Dublin's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Keasia Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. With that strong performance, Jackson is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Briana Daniel, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 15 points.

Wheeler County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Dublin, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-12.

Wheeler County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 39-33 defeat against Hawkinsville on the 4th. As for Dublin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-45 loss against Dodge County on the 1st.
