Basketball Preview: Alief Hastings Bears vs. Alief Elsik Rams
Alief Hastings has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Alief Elsik Rams at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Alief Hastings focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Wednesday.
Alief Hastings struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Lions had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Alief Hastings fell 56-45 to the Lions. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Alief Hastings in their matchups with the Lions: they've now lost three in a row.
The losing side was boosted by Melinda Winston, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and three steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Favour Emeka, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Alief Elsik was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 57-52 to the Sharks. While losing is never fun, Alief Elsik can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 477th, while the Sharks are ranked 121st).
Alief Hastings has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-16 record this season. As for Alief Elsik, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-18.
Everything came up roses for Alief Hastings against the Rams when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 59-28 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Alief Hastings since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
