Football Recap: Sterling Comes Up Short on the Road Against Metamora + How To Watch

Sterling had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They were outmatched by the Metamora Redbirds and fell 43-14. The Golden Warriors haven't had much luck with the Redbirds recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Metamora's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Stephen Petri led the charge by throwing for 141 yards and three TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushing for 38 yards and one touchdown. Another back making a difference was Jaiduan Cranford, who rushed for 132 yards and one score while picking up 7.8 yards per carry.

Sterling and Metamora should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Golden Warriors will square off against Urban Prep-Bronzeville/Urban Prep-Englewood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (146 vs. 466). Meanwhile, Metamora (ranked 102nd) will meet LaSalle-Peru (ranked 254th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
