Softball Preview: Chula Vista Spartans vs. Canyon Hills Rattlers
Chula Vista is 2-7 against Canyon Hills since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Chula Vista beat Liberty Charter 4-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
While Canyon Hills didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over Sage Creek last Thursday.
Natalye Debus spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Canyon Hills' win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Zorah Shoate, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That hit marked the first that Shoate got this season. Another was Kassidy Ramirez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Chula Vista's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Canyon Hills, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
