Raleigh and Mize are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Raleigh Lions will take on the Mize Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Raleigh is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Taylorsville a 19-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Tartars: they've now won seven in a row.
Kallee McWilliams made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, Haylee Buffington was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two stolen bases. What's more, she posted three runs, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Kinley Delcid also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Raleigh kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Taylorsville only managed one hit.
Meanwhile, Mize got the win against Taylorsville on Monday by a conclusive 26-4. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on AK Easterling, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Kate Sullivan, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
The win made it two in a row for Mize and bumps their season record up to 8-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Raleigh, their record now sits at 4-11.
Raleigh suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Mize in their previous meeting back in February. Can Raleigh avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
