Softball Recap: Mandarin Victorious

Mandarin gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out the Nease Golden Panthers 6-5. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by just one run.

The team relied heavily on Kyra Ashton, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Ava Carter was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

Mandarin pushed their record up to 9-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Nease, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Mandarin will square off against St. Joseph Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Fighting Flashes have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Nease, they will face off against St. Augustine at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
