Basketball Recap: Evan Jackson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pantego Christian over Abilene Christian

After flying high against Summit International Prep last Tuesday, Pantego Christian came back down to earth. The Pantego Christian Panthers took a 67-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Abilene Christian Panthers on Friday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against Pantego Christian this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 53-38 back in November.

Pantego Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Evan Jackson, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 21 points. The dominant performance gave Jackson a new career-high in points. Aj Brooks was another key player, going 5 for 9 on his way to 11 points in addition to six boards and five assists.

Even though they lost, Pantego Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests.

Abilene Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bryinn Waggoner out in front who posted 11 points along with six assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamdan Allen, who made all 6 shots he took to post 14 points.

Pantego Christian now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Abilene Christian, they pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Pantego Christian will take on Highland in a tournament on Friday. Pantego Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.2 points per game this season. As for Abilene Christian, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on San Angelo Central at 1:30 p.m. on December 31st.
