Football Recap: St. Mary's vs. Williamson County HomeSchool

St. Mary couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 46-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Williamson County HomeSchool. St. Mary's was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Williamson County HomeSchool apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2023.

Despite the loss, St. Mary's still got an impressive performance from Ty Zimmerhanzel, who rushed for 279 yards and six touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also picked up 41 receiving yards.

Zimmerhanzel wasn't the only one working in the rushing yards department: St. Mary's was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 328 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.

Williamson County HomeSchool's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ethan Slusher, who threw for 253 yards and six touchdowns, and also rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Luke Currie was Slusher's top target, picking up 124 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

St. Mary's is taking a road trip to take on Concordia at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Williamson County HomeSchool, they will square off against NYOS Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both have been evenly matched recently as the teams are 4-4 against one another since September of 2014.
