Basketball Recap: Beaufort Comes Up Short

Beaufort was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were dealt an 83-39 defeat at the hands of the Ashley Ridge Swamp Foxes. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Swamp Foxes are ranked 47th).

Beaufort lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Samari Bonds, who went 7 of 17 en route to 19 points and three steals. Bonds is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amani Cleckley, who posted eight points and six steals.

Ashley Ridge was led to victory by Clayton Everett Jr and Ben Duncan. Everett Jr went 9 of 14 on his way to 20 points and five steals, while Duncan went 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points along with five boards and three steals. Pj Brown was another key player, putting up six points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Beaufort's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Ashley Ridge, they pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Beaufort will square off against Bluffton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bluffton will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Beaufort surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ashley Ridge, they will challenge Fort Dorchester at 8:30 p.m. on January 10th.
