Basketball Recap: Zimere Nelson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ayden - Grifton over Washington

Ayden - Grifton suffered their biggest loss since December 20, 2024 on Monday. They lost 83-63 to the Washington Pam Pack. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 294th, while the Pam Pack are ranked 44th).

Several Chargers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zimere Nelson, who posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Sutton, who had 16 points.

Washington was led to victory by Chaise Smith and Javon Williams. Smith dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 assists, while Williams earned 24 points and five boards. Smith's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jarryn Payne, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Ayden - Grifton's record is now 9-9. As for Washington, they pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.

Ayden - Grifton has already played their next contest, a 90-49 defeat against Farmville Central on the 29th. As for Washington, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 83-64 victory against West Craven on the 28th.
