Volleyball Recap: Cyprus Comes Up Short

Cyprus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hunter Wolverines. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in March.

While Cyprus ultimately came up short, they really made Hunter work, particularly in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 27-25, 24-26, 25-17, 23-25, 15-11.

Isaac Stevens paced Cyprus' offense, picking up six kills. Stevens were helped by Owen Calderon and Zepplin Albert, who contributed ten assists each. Stevens was also solid from the service line: he led the team with two aces.

Cyprus' loss dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Hunter, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season.

Cyprus will head out to challenge West Jordan at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hunter, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Timpanogos on the 25th.
